Object Description This specimen is a cluster of more than 20 hexagonal pale purple quartz crystals with fully formed terminations. The largest termination is 10 cm. in diameter. Most crystals show slight zoning and horizontal striations on the crystal faces. One specimen exhibits twinning. The specimen was collected from the Diamond Hill Quartz Mine in South Carolina, and is a fine example of typical "smoky amethyst" from SC. Amethyst is the state gemstone of SC.
