Object Name Pyrite
Object Description Heavy sample of gray, finely bladed barite with four clusters of dark brown adamantine, sphalerite covered with tiny cubic crystals of yellow, metallic pyrite. Historic Catalog refers to "calcareous earth", which is an archaic term for barite. This sample is included in the Catalogue of the Collection of Minerals in the College of S. C. and can be found on page 104. It was a part of the college's original acquisition from Thomas Cooper in 1821.
