    Single crystal of dark red and green hexagonal nearly terminated apatite with horizontal cracks throughout embedded in white massive calcite with pink and yellow tint. Calcite fluoresces bright red orange under short wave UV light.

    Small sample of white massive (vein) quartz with a thin seam of white small lath shaped crystals of amblygonite. There is also an occurrence of amblygonite on one outer margin of the sample with additional unidentifiable minerals that are dark gray, black, and green.

    Large sample of gray limestone packed with bryozoans, large crinoid stems, and a single shell of Atrypa reticularis with fine ribbing and a wide hinge.

    Small block of marble that is polished on 5 sides. Marble is packed with recrystallized casts of high spired snails (Paludina sp.) and other marine invertebrates. Although record in the Historic Catalog could not be determined, historic labels are associated with the specimen.

  8. Echinoidea (indeterminate)

    Large block of white earthy chalk with 2 echinoid spines exposed on the surface. One is gourdlike or club-shaped with small spurs aligned along stout ribs, and can be identified as a primary spine of Tylocidaris clavigera. The other spine is long and slender with small thorns on narrow ribs, and is indicative of Temnocidaris (Stereocidaris) sceptrifera. More fossils may be embedded deeper in the chalk.   9. Dugongidae (indeterminate)

    Isolated partial vertebra of a non-cetacean marine mammal of the dugong family. Transverse processes and neural arch are broken away. Centra is shallowly concave on both sides and dorsoventrally compressed. Heavy for size. Bone is light tan on the exterior and darker brown internally with yellowish brown sandy matrix that contains marine invertebrates (characteristic of Ashley Fm.)

  10. Ptychodus mammillaris

    Irregular block of light gray earthy limestone with a single anterior tooth of the shell crushing shark Ptychodus mammillaris embedded within. Tooth is brown with characteristic ridges along a rounded crown. Central ridged cusp is surrounded with small papillae. Although record in the Historic Catalog could not be determined, historic labels are associated with the specimen.

    Ananchites (or Ananchytes) is a junior synonym of Echinocorys. Isolated test of the irregular sea urchin Echinocorys ovatus with a large nodule of dark gray chert adhered to the aboral posterior end.

    Sample is a partially complete skeleton of Ichthyosaurus communis, consisting of skeletal material embedded in gray shale that has been stabilized with a smooth white infilling (plaster) and a dark wooden frame.   14. Dallarca idonea

    Three isolated ark shells; one large and the two smaller, nearly equal in size shells. The large shell is sub-rectangular with twenty-eight heavy ribs that have slight nodes where the growth lines intersect the ribs. A straight row of teeth is present with inner teeth shorter than outer teeth. There is a strong fold along one side of the beak. The two smaller shells have no nodes on the ribs.

  15. Cymatosyrinx lunata

    Heavily ornamented, isolated snail shell. Shell is high spired and drill shaped with a flattened area just below the suture before the whorl becomes inflated. Each whorl is sculptured with twelve strong oblique axial ribs. The aperture is ovate to D-shaped with a short, but distinct siphonal canal. The outer lip of the aperture is broken in this specimen however a large callus is present at the inner lip.

  17. Spisula confraga

    Two isolated clam valves and two clam valves with matrix and other invertebrates packed in the interior. The shells are thin, equant and triangular with the beak centrally positioned. Exterior morphology is marked by fine growth lamellae, though all shells are damaged by abrasion.

Has protruding ears (2.625"); large eyebrows (3"); bulging eyes; large nose with open nostrils; a large upper lip, five white uneven teeth and smaller lower lip; and a goatee beard (3.75"l).     A 0.6 cm thick slice of the meteorite with a roughly rectangular cross section. Polished to mirror, with a brilliant metallic silver finish. This sample is significantly lighter than the sample listed in Shepard's 1853 inventory (1 oz.) and Riley's 1963 thesis (28.2 grams). This sample is included in the Catalogue of the Collection of Minerals in the College of S. C. and can be found on page 103.
