Isolated marine snail shell with a low spired, trochoid, conispiral shell that is heavily ornamented with four beaded ribs in the first five whorls, then four ribs with growth lines in the body whorl.
Record Type: Object
-
Arcinella arcinella
Single isolated right valve of a jewelbox clam. The shell has at approximately five low radial ribs that are spinous (though many spines are broken off). Frilled growth layers are prominent and fine radial costae are present between the ribs. Matrix obscures the beak and teeth.
Record Type: Object
-
Bostrycapulus aculeatus
Isolated shell of the slipper snail exhibiting fine, slender costae from the umbilicus to the aperture. Interior shelf covers nearly half the aperture, and is packed with tan sandy matrix.
Record Type: Object
-
Carditidae (indeterminate)
Large external cast of the clam preserved as a dark gray sandy mold of the outer shell ornamentation. Characterized by stout ribs that flare at the outer margin. Small ostreid casts are also present.
Record Type: Object
-
Chama congregata
Two complete articulated clams, four valves total. The larger clam is filled with matrix. The left valve is larger than right valve which is essentially a lid. External morphology is characterized by numerous layers of shell forming rugose growth lamellae.
Record Type: Object
-
Chama corticosa
Isolated left valve of a jewelbox clam, notable is its sinistral coiling (counter-clockwise) at the beak. External morphology is characterized by numerous layers of very thin and delicate frilled growth lamellae. These layers are much broken in this specimen.
Record Type: Object
-
Coronafulgur coronatum
Small isolated whelk. Externally the shell is inflated with prominent knobs along the shoulder of the spire. The aperture is ovate with a long siphonal canal below. The outer lip of the aperture is broken in this specimen and the body whorl is smooth at the largest inflated portion, however this may be due to abrasion.
Record Type: Object
-
Crepidula fornicata
Three isolated sea snail shells. The shells are ovate and smooth with only faint growth lines. Interior shelf covers one half to two thirds of the aperture, and is packed with tan calcareous and sandy matrix (in the measured specimen).
Record Type: Object
-
Cymatosyrinx lunata
Heavily ornamented, isolated snail shell. Shell is high spired and drill shaped with a flattened area just below the suture before the whorl becomes inflated. Each whorl is sculptured with twelve strong oblique axial ribs. The aperture is ovate to D-shaped with a short, but distinct siphonal canal. The outer lip of the aperture is broken in this specimen however a large callus is present at the inner lip.
Record Type: Object
-
Dallarca idonea
Two isolated left valves. Shell is ovate with a straight row of hinge teeth that are slightly taller at each end. Approximately thirty-two radial ribs are heavy and the posterior of the shell is flared.
Record Type: Object
-
Dallarca idonea
Three isolated ark shells; one large and the two smaller, nearly equal in size shells. The large shell is sub-rectangular with twenty-eight heavy ribs that have slight nodes where the growth lines intersect the ribs. A straight row of teeth is present with inner teeth shorter than outer teeth. There is a strong fold along one side of the beak. The two smaller shells have no nodes on the ribs.
Record Type: Object
-
Dugongidae (indeterminate)
Isolated partial vertebra of a non-cetacean marine mammal of the dugong family. Transverse processes and neural arch are broken away. Centra is shallowly concave on both sides and dorsoventrally compressed. Heavy for size. Bone is light tan on the exterior and darker brown internally with yellowish brown sandy matrix that contains marine invertebrates (characteristic of Ashley Fm.)
Record Type: Object
-
Elasmobranchii (indeterminate)
Three isolated nearly complete shark vertebrae, and two vertebral fragments. Largest two are lamniform vertebrae; brown with narrow slit-like openings around the circumference. Largest is broken (roughly 1/4 is lost) and has markings where at least eight barnacles adhered to it, as well as an unknown encrusting bryozoan. These two specimens are associated with a label that refers to "Ashley" - probably "Ashley beds" of Tuomey 1848 (now known as A...
Record Type: Object
-
Ensis directus
Isolated partial valve of the razor clam. The shell is broken laterally, so the preserved portion is the beak and umbo of the left valve.
Record Type: Object

Two broken sections of worm snail shell. The straight section is circular in cross section with an aperture approximately one centimeter in diameter. The exterior of shell is rugose or granulated. The coiled section is irregularly coiled with the same granulation to the exterior. The shell diameter is six millimeters at the largest opening. This section is certainly a section of older whorls, though it is most likely a different individual from t...
